New residents at The Willows

Well we have finally got some chickens, 3 of them, a Columbian Red, a Black Rock and a Bluebell. We had talked about getting some since before we moved here but kept putting it off. Last weekend we were at the local farmers market and saw some chicken houses for sale that we liked, well made and lots of room, so we decided to go for it. I am going to build a large enclosure for them and give them the run of the fruit cage (once I protect the lower bushes) which should sort the slugs out. I am sure they will cause some damage but as long as they repay with eggs and manure I will forgive them.

  1. Way to go, Gary! That's cool. I too would love to have a domestic animal for my garden and if could I would go for a cow! Great idea!

  3. Lucky you, been dreaming of chickens for aeons, but thus far haven't taken the plunge. Your girls are very pretty, I hope they lay you lots of eggs.

  4. Oh, I'm so jealous! It is my lifetime's ambition to keep chickens. They are GORGEOUS. Have you given them names yet, or don't you want to? If Sharron is a line judge, you could call them after lady tennis players. How about Steffi, Venus and Billie-Jean?

  5. Well we did think about Tennis players names, but the dog was named after Boris Becker so possibly a bit to much. We do have some ideas I will keep you all posted.

  6. It's a pity you're not an MP, Gary - you could have claimed that hen house on your exes.
